Another ALTA Lofts Owner Living the American Dream

Don Marcelo moved into his brand new loft over the 4th of July weekend. While his friends were celebrating our country’s birthday, Don celebrated a personal milestone -the American Dream of homeownership.

“I relocated a lot, including to the Pacific Northwest, but always had a desire for my own place in the city,” Don says. “I looked at places in downtown LA for two years, but everything was still too pricey for an aspiring photographer, like me. Rather than live in the city, I lived nearby where rent was more affordable.”

Don’s sister discovered ALTA Lofts during the neighborhood’s Brewery Art Walk, and encouraged Don to visit the sales office and models. Knowing his budget was tight, Don visited ALTA Lofts, and found the perfect industrial-style studio loft with great light, a spacious work and sleep area, plus a balcony that overlooked the city. This loft was also close to downtown and was well priced.

Don found his loft at ALTA Lofts in May just prior to the auction of a select number of lofts. He attended the auction and submitted a bid. But, several other buyers were interested in the same loft. “My chances weren’t looking so good,” Don recalls. “Just as I was leaving, I learned that a couple of the bids weren’t accepted, and that I had the winning bid. Best of all, it was below my budgeted amount!”

Don was already pre-approved with a lender, so he was able to close escrow quickly. He’s settled and hanging out with his new neighbors at ALTA Lofts, who he says are amazing people. “I made a life change and it paid off. My life and photography career have been re-energized. I’m living in a dynamic place. I’ve got my city life; I’ve got my very own loft, and I’m living my dream.”

Living the High Life at ALTA Lofts

Thomas Kurosu and his wife, Satomi, are loving life in their expansive, light-filled penthouse at ALTA Lofts. And, for many good reasons.

In March of this year, Thomas accepted a position with Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, and they brought him out from Boston to begin house-hunting. ALTA Lofts was conveniently located, so it was one of the first places he visited. Unfortunately, Thomas’ first choice, a two-story, 2,000 square foot penthouse, was already sold and in escrow.

“This loft had the space, the style and was in a great location,” recalls Thomas. “We were disappointed, but continued searching.”

Anxious to get settled and be close to work, Thomas decided to purchase a loft in downtown LA, which was in the pre-construction stage. While staying in a hotel, he learned that the development was delayed, and it would be some time before it would be completed.

“Sometimes things happen for a reason,” says Thomas. “We started house-hunting again, and re-visited ALTA Lofts. It turns out that our dream loft fell out of escrow, was back on the market, and the price had been lowered. The other loft, still under construction, was half the size for the same price. This was indeed great luck!”

Thomas and Satomi settled into their new penthouse Labor Day weekend. While unpacking, the couple was able to truly appreciate their grand views of the city and Dodger Stadium. They also reflected about the tremendous value of their new loft as well as the proximity to so much.

“You could say we’re really living on top of the world,” Thomas states.
